RAVANA EMPIRE-A LEGENDARY EMPIRE IN SRI LANKA (Tourist Attractions)
Ravana was a glorious king in sri Lankan history.And he is the chief antagonist of HINDU epic ramayanaya.Indians and mostly Hindu people identify the King RAVANA as the symbol of evil.But he is considered as a great ruler in MAHARASHTRA mythology.And he was well versed in six shastras and four vedas.In the Ramanaya,Ravana kidnapped Rams wife SITA and brought to his kingdom LANKA.But sri lankans believe that SITA as ravanas daughter.As factors revealed by clues, ravana ruled sri lanka from 2554 to 2517 he used SIGIRIYA(ALAKAMANDA) as his palace.
SIGIRIYA(ALAKAMANDA)
Sigiriya is a very famous tourist attraction among other places in sri lanka beacause of marvelous, curious and attractive creations of old ancestors.It is a huge isolated rock and there is a ruined kingdom on the top of the rock.Among many marvelous creations, the way of coming of water from the bottom of the rock to the top is very curious.That shows the developmentof the technology of ancient sri Lankans. And in one side of the rock, we can see some clues that we can identify as paths used for elevators.And also climbing this rock is a fantastic experience and also it is very dangerous.
RITIGALA
This also an ancient place regarding the ravan kingdom.There are many legends written regarding the history of RITIGALA.And also it was mentioned in the RAMAYANAYA too.Some rural people say that RITIGALA is a part of HIMALAYA (mountain) brought by HANUMAN.They says that, soldiers hurt in the RAMA-RAVANA battle was healed by the medicines prepared by using plant parts taken by plants of RITIGALA mountain
THOTUPALAKANDA
THOTUPALAKANDA is a mounted that neighbouring ravana empire and also it receives the third place according to the height among other mountains in sri lanka.It is located in hortain plains.And also there are many legends about THOTUPALAKANDA.One of them are,The RAVANAS DANDUMONARAYA(a vehicle like an aircraft)was parked in here THOTUPALAKANDA.This mountain is always covered by mist and clouds and people there thinks that there many mysterious things happen here.so you must visit there and have the experience.And if you go there you can see ELKS everywhere.And also this is a nice place for hiking too.And please remember to bring clothes suitable for cold climate.
SITA AMMAN KOVIL
This is the only kovil built for princess sita.This is located in 1 kilometer away from Haggala botanical garden and 5 kilometersaway from NuwaraEliya.some of them believe this place as the place that the princess sita was held by the king RAVANA.The Sita river flows near that kovil.As in some stories,people near there belive that the HANUMAN burnt this area.And this was proven by the burnt mud near this area.And inside this kovil,there are statues of prince Ram,prince Lakshman and princess Sita.
DOLUKANDA
The history of DOLUKANDA runs to the time of RAVANA empire.This is a very important forest system rich in bio diversity.Inside this forest,we can find very rare plants with very high medicinal value.This is located in Hiriyala in kurunegala in North Western province.And if you visit there you can find many more legends and many interesting stories.so visit there have fun and many fantastic experiences.
